Pick your distro

Open a terminal and run the steps top to bottom. Each box has a Copy button: paste it into the terminal and press Enter. When a command asks a question, type y and press Enter. It may ask for your password once.

  1. Install Flatpak skip if you've used Flatpak before
    sudo pacman -S --needed flatpak
  2. Add Flathub where the KDE runtime comes from; harmless if it's already there
    flatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub https://dl.flathub.org/repo/flathub.flatpakrepo
  3. Install Tin Hat answer y to each question; the first time also downloads the KDE runtime, a few hundred MB
    flatpak install https://repo.lueshub.com/flatpak/tinhat.flatpakref
  4. Start it after one log-out and log-in it's in your app launcher too
    flatpak run com.lueshub.tinhat
Coming from the old pacman package?

10.0 was the last pacman build. Install the Flatpak as above, sign in once, then remove the old package. It's still called lueselement unless a system update renamed it to tinhat (pacman -Q lueselement tinhat shows which one you have):

sudo pacman -Rns lueselement

The Flatpak keeps its own data in ~/.var/app/com.lueshub.tinhat, so it asks you to sign in once. Your rooms, calls and history are on the server as always.

Real output. If you haven't installed another KDE app before, you'll also be asked about the KDE runtime from Flathub, and it appears in the list: answer y there too. Flatpak may ask for your password to install system-wide.

Steam Deck, Bazzite, Legion Go

Launch it from Game Mode.

Add Tin Hat to Steam once and it sits in your library next to your games, controller-friendly and one tap away.

  1. In Desktop Mode, open Steam
  2. Games → Add a Non-Steam Game to My Library…
  3. Tick Tin Hat and click Add Selected Programs
  4. Back in Game Mode, it's under Non-Steam in your library

Good to know

How do updates work?

Tin Hat tells you itself: a banner with Update now appears when a new version is out. Discover, GNOME Software and flatpak update get the same build.

No icon in my app launcher

Log out and back in once, because desktops pick up new Flatpak apps at login. On KDE, running kbuildsycoca6 does the same without logging out.

NVIDIA

Hardware-encoded screen sharing needs the Flatpak NVIDIA driver that matches your system driver. Flatpak installs it on its own; if flatpak update offers an org.freedesktop.Platform.GL.nvidia update, take it.

How do I uninstall it?
flatpak uninstall com.lueshub.tinhat

Add --delete-data to also remove its local data (you'd sign in again next time). Your chats live on the server either way.

Something went wrong

Copy what the terminal printed and file a report, no account needed. From inside Tin Hat, the bug button attaches the logs for you.
